Taking a look at how you like to spend your free time is a good place to start in deciding what kind of business is right for you. One of the reasons for starting your own business my be to escape a job that you are currently working that is dissatisfying or boring. But before you quit your current job and decide to start your own business, make sure the type of business you start will give you more satifaction and joy than your current job.

If you choose a business that you want to do, you will increase your success factor. After you start your business you will find that you might be putting in more hours than you originally planned but if you love want you're doing in your business then you won't mind making the committment.

Using your hobbies to start a small business is a good starting point because these are the types of things you choose to do in your free time when you could be doing almost anything.

Using your hobbies to start a small business should begin with you making a list of the things you enjoy doing such as drawing, quilting, cooking, floral arrangements or auto mechanics. Take this list and look at the opportunities that could be developed into a part or full time business. For example, if you like cooking, start small by catering weddings, graduations, family reunions or baby showers. Catering one or two affairs a month will give you an idea of how much time and work the business will take in order to replace your current full time income.

One advantage to using your hobbies to start a small business is that you can start slowly and gradually build a business that you truly enjoy.
